How to disinfect a cat carrier that houses a chick with pox?
I am taking care of my Grandmother's two baby chickens she found and one has a really bad case of pox, within a week is eye has become so swollen he can't open it and now I think he has to breath from his mouth because his nostrils are covered up from the pox. It's so sad, but I want to have him put to sleep today.
The other chick is very active and growing every day and has so much energy so we are going to keep that one. They are both living in the cat carrier, how should I disinfect it for the healthy chick? I also have a piece of wood for a perch that they like so how would I disinfect that too?

Disinfecting the carrier won’t protect the healthy chick if it’s in contact with the infected one. You can’t disinfect biological material, like food, droppings, or baby chicks!
The cheap way to disinfect is with bleach. You can follow the directions on the bottle for dilutions, or to be sure, you can do one part water to one part bleach.
Whatever dilution method you choose, first make sure the carrier is free from any biological debris (soap and water works fine), and then leave the bleach mixture on for twenty minutes. Rinse THOROUGHLY.
