Is it safe for a GP to travel? I have a small dog carrier that i take him places in. I make sure he has a source of water and food, and he can go to the bathroom, also we are never out longer than an hour. The places i take him are like the pet stores for fun. i just want to make sure that its safe, and that its not too stressful for him.

it is too stressful for them to travel unnecessarily.
That shouldnt be a problem. I have travelled a lot longer with mine and had no problems. I would recommend lining the cage with newspaper/bedding then plenty of hay and fresh food to eat, attach a water bottle on the outside and he should be fine, just like being in his own home.
My guinea pigs made a trip from NJ to IL when I moved, they fared just fine. If taking a long trip, cover the cage to help calm them.
they should be fine. i used to have 2 gp and they rode very well.
You mean your taking him on outings….heck i just throw my rat in my pocket and off we go. Never mind a dog carrier. You do know they make them smaller for guinea pigs?
i don’t think so ,it could get car sick
Well I guess I’m going to be the lone voice of dissent here.
Guinea pigs should NOT be taken for outings or car rides unless absolutely necessary. They really don’t travel well at all. Because they are prey animals and hide any sign of illness or stress very well, it may appear to you that your piggie is just fine. However, this is not the case.
Guinea pigs should not be subjected to temperatures over 85 degrees fahrenheit and NEVER left in direct sunlight. They can quickly become overheated and die of heatstroke. Drastic changes in temperatures (house to car…car to store….store to car again..car to house again) can stress his body. Physically stressed guinea pigs get sick. I know you wouldn’t want that, right?
Secondly, you wouldn’t want to expose your piggie to any airborne illnesses that might be hanging around the pet store.
Anyway, do your piggie a big favor and leave him at home, where he will be very happy to see you upon your return!
omg.. PLEASE listen to Justified. I can’t believe all the other answers here. You will stress out your pig majorly taking him on outings. He doesn’t enjoy it. Stress will cause major problems over time.
